Overview
The Preschool Symposium for Tamil Language Educators 2024 was organised by the Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee (TLLPC) to support the professional development of preschool Tamil Language educators. The symposium provided a platform for educators to deepen their understanding of effective teaching and learning approaches that support young learners’ Tamil Language development.
Symposium Theme and Keynote Address
The symposium was centred on the theme “Tamil Language Teaching and Learning through Meaningful Play and Outdoor Learning.”
The keynote address was delivered by Mrs Rathi Devi, Curriculum Specialist from the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC). She shared insights on how purposeful play and outdoor learning can be meaningfully integrated into Tamil Language instruction for preschool children.
Professional Sharing and International Perspectives
In addition to the keynote address, four preschool Tamil Language educators shared their classroom practices and pedagogical approaches, offering practical insights into effective Tamil Language teaching.
The symposium also featured international perspectives, with pre-recorded sharing sessions by speakers from India, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. These sessions, aligned with the symposium theme, were made available on the TLLPC website for educators to access and benefit from.
Participants
The symposium was attended by preschool Tamil Language educators as well as students from the National Institute of Early Childhood Development, who gained valuable insights from the sharing of pedagogical strategies, professional experiences, and research-informed practices.
